So what's the difference between this site and the many opportunities out there to buy in to 'shared ownership'?
This is a social networking site where you can contact other members in private to see how you can work together. We (this website) do not own property, we do not invest or offer investments to our members. Our knowledgebase helps you to make informed decisions.

If you want to buy property as an investor or co-buyer, this site allows members to contact each other, in private, to discuss ways they can work together for mutual benefit. Random messages are removed because you control who can contact you. Personal details are never revealed. Members are in groups of similar interest but you can search across one or all groups. You may be a first time buyer looking for affordable housing, a seasoned investor, or just need to co-buy and find a flatmate. Register for free. Co-buying might be a good move for you!
All the resources are in one place and you get to communicate with other members who have a shared interest in co-buying property. Each member leaves a profile and indicates their field of interest so you can go direct with the knowledge that they want to hear from you. It also gives you the opportunity to look at other areas of investment you may not have considered. Maybe now is the time to invest in shared ownership. The first thing to understand is that co-ownership is nothing unusual or original. It is completely legal and is used by many people to achieve their owning target. The process is controlled and the documents drawn up by a Solicitor so it is fully transparent to all parties sharing in the ownership.
During initial discussion with other members you would be able to decide if a partnership with them is viable. You would both appoint legal representation and discuss in detail the rules by which joint ownership would operate. For example it may be a 'buy to let' which you all agree will be disposed of when the value reaches an agreed level. This is just one possibility, the actual method is between the buyers.

The advantages of co-ownership can be summarised in a number of ways. Perhaps the most obvious is that you can achieve asset ownership more quickly. It also means that the cost of running a property is greatly reduced and if you only need it 'part time' (e.g. retired overseas) there's a lot to be said for not leaving it empty for months on end and having someone else be equally concerned that it is kept well.
Additionally it's a substantial investment, having others 'on board' spreads the load and you can get a lot more when two or more parties work together.
But the real gain is making it work for you, your circumstance, your aims and objectives. Get it right and it's an extremely beneficial and useful asset.

The first and most important issue is that co-ownership is never a loose hand shake agreement. All areas must be considered, cost, maintenance, end date. All of these need to be agreed, understood and compiled within a legal document. Solicitors with experience in co-ownership agreements can supply all the details.

Based in the UK for UK residents. This website brings together people who want to share the cost of property purchase and / or sell a share in property.
This can be someone who wants to step on to the housing ladder but is unable to afford the full cost yet still wants to take advantage of depressed house prices.
Other members include those retired or planning to retire overseas. Many people do not want to lose a hold on the UK housing market and also need a place to stay when they return. However the expense of keeping an empty property means this can be an ideal opportunity to share with others in the same position.
Perhaps you want to invest in property and collect some rent rather than actually use it as your primary residence. Rather than wait to cover the full cost you could share with someone who is looking for a home, or another investor.
Co-Homebuyer was formed in 2010. We're new! The reasoning behind this site was because of our own predicament. We wanted to retire overseas in a few years but needed somewhere to come back to. Yes, we could stay with the kids, but for 3 months? How would that put strain on everyone and as much as we love them, do we want to 'move in'? (It took years to get them to 'move out!').
So we needed to think of another way for extended visits. Our own apartment of course would be nice. Keep our own things there rather than dispose of a lot when we go. But the least expensive in our chosen area was £100,000.
Retiring with a huge mortgage was not an option so we had to consider spending a very sizeable portion of our savings / equity. Plus the worry of it being empty, insurance, council tax, utilities. I could go on.... and on....
Co-home buying makes sense. Share the cost of buying and running the property. Set out sensible but fair rules in the agreement. Work with someone who thinks the same way. Hence co-homebuyer.co.uk
Why UK users only? Well, it's not realistic in our opinion, at least, to offer a good service worldwide - best stick with what you know. Why 'social networking' as a platform? It's familiar to many, easy to use, offers everything you need from assured privacy, the ability to contact or block users and facilities appropriate to your membership.

These are just some of the comments we have heard . Buying property will never be 'cheap', but it can be more affordable. Once you have the property you can rent it out. You can buy property and live in it with the co-buyer. Sometimes the co-buyer doesn't want to live in the property, they want to rent their half to you.
